I have only done a couple of shoots in low light situations (around sundown), however have not done any night shots.

From what I have seen so far, the light metre is very accurate and as long as you keep that within the defined tolerances, low light really does not seem to be an issue.

Also it does have a full auto feature, you can turn on auto-focus on the lens and switch the camera to auto and just point and shoot.

How does it perform in low light situations? Does it have an AUTO feature for those times where one is in a hurry and do not have time to adjust settings? I’m considering this camera to replace my Nikon which always has to be serviced. Thanks.

Hi Ian,
The canon does have that ability, it is not something I have had a play with yet.

It also has the ability to connect the camera to a computer and view the equivalent on the computer screen, now that I have looked at this I am *very* curious so will try to play with those features a little more in the coming weeks.

I saw this in a catalogue the other day and liked the look of it. Does it have the ability to see your photo through the LCD before you take it (rather than the viewfinder)?

Oh Stephen, as another note, I was just reading your equipment specifications on your “About” page on your blog, and from the points you have brought up there (including being able to use continuous shooting while on RAW mode and image stabilisation technology) I think the Canon IOS 1000D certainly does have both of those features.

As I mentioned I am only really new to the camera but at this stage I am personally loving it. I would definitely say it could be a great contender for you.

Hi Stephen,
Thanks so much that is one of my favourites as well. It was a tough one to take as the light was starting to dim so I had to use a higher ISO value but managed to get the shot perfectly the second time I took it.

As for if it is a good replacement, as I have never used an S9600 I cannot really provide you a comparison, but if you are looking for a light weight Digital SLR, I have to say that so far I have been really quite happy with the quality and performance of the Canon EOS 1000D.

Nice review, and it sounds like a really good camera – I especially like the final picture where you captured the water from the fountain. Actualy I’ve been considering buying a new camera to replace my S9600, is the 1000D a step in the right direction?
