Top Commentators Plugin
ByA while ago I decided to throw in a Top Commentators Plugin (on the right hand menu). However, recently I was reading through Ben Barden’s Top Ten Blog Tips Forum and through a comment that was made I have raised an interesting question.
Should the Top Commentators widget reset periodically (for example mine currently does monthly) or should it be an all time thing?
I have started a poll and was wondering if I could get my readers to jump on over to the poll here and let us know your thoughts. What can I say I like to give my readers what they want.
So what are your thoughts?

I reset my TC’s monthly. I think if you leave it too long between updates you don’t give newish commenters a chance to make your list.

@Ian: My thoughts exactly, though I wish there were some way for the top commentators list to display those for the last 30 days or something, and not just reset monthly. After all, it’s a bit awkward to see an empty list after the reset.

I’ve been meaning to ask… was there no “What If Wednesday” entry this week? I looked forward to it and somewhat felt down. I hope there’s one this coming week!

I too reset mine monthly though I do have the stats for my ‘all time’ top commenter that I hope to reward at the end of the year.
I didn’t see a poll? I wanted to click a radio button!

I get a “relative” Top commentators, of the past 3 months. Reason is I don’t get that many comments, so I like to give my top commentators more credit.

yes, TC should be reset periodically. Reset per a month is ok

I saw somewhere 12 months period. 30 days is more than fine. Gives chance to get listed for fresh users like me.

I reset mine monthly. For the same reasons mentioned above. Particularly as I have quite a few new readers.

I have seen sites with TC’s and All-Time TC’s. Another option that works. Resetting monthly is a great idea, but … if someone, like me, lands here for the first time on the 30th of the month, they may go elsewhere to comment.

I currently have mine set to monthly, and I’m tracking which users commented the previous month to see if they come back.
